Alison Hammond jokes shell run for Prime Minister after No10 Christmas party

Alison Hammond would like to run for Prime Minister she announced on social media this Friday – to the pleasant surprise of her fans.

The 46-year-old broke the shocking news in a “statement” she posted on Instagram and Twitter.

“So, I’ve thought long and hard about this, I’ve decided to apply for Prime Minister! I feel I would do a grand job. Thoughts??” Alison wrote.

The This Morning host had some downtime to think about taking over the position from Boris Johnson on Friday morning after being replaced by Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby to present the ITV show.

Alison usually hosts along with Dermot O’ Leary on Fridays however the pair were swapped out for the Christmas special of This Morning, making way for the veteran presenting duo to step in and take over.

This left the Birmingham-born star to think deeply about how she wants her career to move forward, stirring an announcement that one colleague in particular was all for, following one condition.

“Only if I can be your deputy,” fellow This Morning host Alex Beresford responded.

Many more famous friends of Alison backed her decision to “apply” for Prime Minster, including The Only Way is Essex star Amy Childs, former Love Islander Samira Mighty and Davinia Taylor.

The ITV star’s followers were just as enthusiastic about her bold new move and gave their thorough support in the comments.

“Please do. I think the vacancy will be coming up shortly,” one follower said.

"Do it!! Just think how much happier and more positive we would be. Prime Minister's Question Time would finally be worth watching and I'm sure the Queen would love having you around on Thursdays! DO IT!” a second fan wrote.

Alison has remained a popular figure over the years on This Morning and ever since she began hosting the show with Dermot at the beginning of the year she has continued to hit it off with viewers, which was shown in reaction to her announcement.

“You’re our people @AlisonHammond, so you’d be fair, tough, straight-talking and most importantly, humane. I’d vote for you in a heartbeat,” a follower added, while another wrote: “I’d tune into EVERY PM announcement!! You’ve already won the nations heart, you’d win this 100%!"

Alison didn’t confirm whether she was joking or not about her decision to run for Prime Minister, reposting instead a screenshot on Instagram Stories of a poll taken by fans answering if they thought it a good idea.

With 88% voting yes, perhaps Alison will stay encouraged to continue on with her application.
