Lucy Verasamy, 40, updates ITV viewers and her followers on social media every day with the latest weather news and was left stunned when she learnt winds were going to reach up to 85mph in some places around the UK on Thursday. But she was even more shocked when a fan shared with her a picture of a flattened car that had been totally crushed by a fallen tree.

SO windy!! A struggle to close car doors & debris on the roads – and that’s London

Taking to Twitter on Thursday morning, Lucy wanted viewers to stay vigilant as the strong winds could be whipping up debris.

“SO windy!! A struggle to close car doors & debris on the roads – and that’s London,” she penned.

“Worse elsewhere with gusts of more than 85mph. Strongest winds for a year in places.”

She added: “More windy weather to come.”

As her followers took to the comments section to share their experiences battling the gales, one posted a photo of a car that had seen better days.

“Saw this on my cycle home from work,” the user wrote.

They also shared another snap after the tree had been removed from on top of the vehicle and cut up into logs.

But nevertheless, the strength of the wind was enough to frighten some people.

After Lucy came across the post, she replied: “Eek! Where is this & what time? Thank you.”

Another follower shared what was going down in the Isle of Wight, while others revealed their street’s bins had gone AWOL.

“Not a great day to have the recycling bins out!! A 7am litter pick not my idea of fun!!!” one moaned.

A second agreed: “It had to be on bin day too. Bins out in the street blew over and a lot of rubbish around. not ours.”

But while most were wishing people well and to stay safe, others tried to lighten the mood with some jokes, one of which was centred around some of the biggest UK showbiz news of the week.

“Storm Piers. Causes a bit of unrest but will soon be forgotten about,” someone giggled.

It comes after the Good Morning Britain star stepped down from his presenting role on Tuesday, following his scathing rants about Meghan Markle.

He walked off the set after weather presenter Alex Beresford challenged him on his behaviour towards the Duchess of Sussex, and later on that evening ITV announced that he would be leaving.

He spoke to the press outside his London home regarding the circumstances of his departure, saying: “I believe in freedom of speech, I believe in the right to be allowed to have an opinion. If people want to believe Meghan Markle, that’s entirely their right.

“I don’t believe almost anything that comes out of her mouth and I think the damage she’s done to the British monarchy and to the Queen at a time when Prince Philip is lying in hospital is enormous and frankly contemptible.

“If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview, so be it.”

On what’s next for the notoriously opinionated telly star, he smiled: “I think it’s fair to say, although the woke crowd will think that they’ve cancelled me, I think they will be rather disappointed when I re-emerge.”
