A care home resident has joined the race for Christmas number one, battling Mariah Carey and Jess Glynne for the crown.
Margaret Mackie, 84, is taking on the charts with her cover of White Christmas, by legendary Bing Crosby.
She belted out the classic at the Northcare Suites Care Home, in Edinburgh, where she resides – with help from former carer Jamie Lee Morley, 32.
Singer Jamie recorded guide vocals in a recording studio last month, sharing them with his pal over a videocall – before she was sent equipment to record her own vocals.
Will Margaret be able to beat the self-declared queen of Christmas to the title?
Seeing as she beat Ed Sheeran in terms of downloads, we wouldn’t put it past her…
The star shared an incredible rendition of My Way last year, that stormed the downloads charts – with a video of her performance going viral in the process.
She will be facing stiff competition from Mariah, Liam Gallagher, Justin Bieber and Jess for the top spot.
An Official Charts spokesperson has told us that the race to the infamous number one spot couldn’t be more exciting – which is definitely what we need after the madness of 2020.
‘2020 has been a challenging year for many, what we’re seeing through the lens of the Official Chart is the British public noticeably wishing it all away in favour of some festive cheer,’ they told us.
‘December is only just arriving and we’re already seeing a vast surge year on year in the streaming of Christmas classics (up 45% year on year).
‘Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You reappeared in the Official Chart Top 40 two weeks ago, its earliest re-entry on record, and there’s no less than four festive songs potentially about to break into the Top 10 on Friday.’
Bring it on!
