Let’s get this out of the way quickly. With tonight’s episode over, Holby City officially won’t be on air for a full year ever again.
Don’t worry! Tonight’s episode wasn’t the last ever one, but as the show is ending next March, it means we only have a small handful of episodes left.
It’s been quite the year for this medical drama and as we look to 2022, we’ve got questions on how the show will end after tonight’s instalment which covered a lot of storylines.
So, sit down (you’re probably already sitting down, unless you watch Holby standing up…), grab the biscuits and settle in as we discuss what’s to come for Holby in 2022.
Will Ange and Josh’s wedding go ahead?
AH a Christmas proposal! After the year Ange (Dawn Steele) and Josh (Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge) have had, we are very much here for their upcoming wedding.
Now, this is a drama let’s not forget, Holby City like to throw curveballs that put weddings in jeopardy – will this be the same for Ange and Josh?
Or, given the fact the show is ending, will Holby City keep fans happy and give Jange their happy ending?
Will Henrik confront his feelings for Russ?
Gosh, Holby City are teasing us with Henrik (Guy Henry) and Russ (Simon Slater), aren’t they?
Ever since Russ arrived with Ollie (James Anderson) in tow, chemistry has been growing between him and lifelong friend Henrik.
The flirting was turned up a level over the past few episodes, but will Henrik confront his feelings for Russ before the final credits roll?
Joking aside, we know Henrik struggles to address his emotions, but will he realise the person who will make him happiest is Russ Faber?
Ah the lovely Belinda Owusu is back! In a surprise twist, Nicky returned to screen tonight as she wandered past Ollie and made her way into the hospital.
If Nicky is back to work on Darwin, what challenges will she face as she settles back into hospital life?
Will she get on with new Clinical Lead, Eli (Davood Ghadami)?
And what about Louis (Tyler Luke Cunningham)? Before Nicky left, they came very close to kissing, but he’s with Kylie (Amy Murphy) now!
Could Louis and Kylie’s relationship be at risk of coming to an end if Louis still has feelings for Nicky?
Can Dom heal after Carole’s death?
Wonderful Dom (David Ames) said goodbye to mum Carole (Julia Deakin) in last week’s episode following her battle with dementia.
The character broke down in Sacha’s (Bob Barrett) arms as he apologised for everything he put Sacha through, telling him that now, he just wants to make Carole proud.
Can Dom find a tiny bit of happiness over the next few months? The grieving process will be a difficult one, but will he accept love and support from his Holby family as he begins to move forward?
Will Jac die?
Holby City viewers are desperate for a glimmer of hope when it comes to Jac Naylor (Rosie Marcel), who’s been living with a brain tumour for months.
At the end of tonight’s episode, we saw Jac suffer a nosebleed, suggesting she’s deteriorating rapidly as her condition takes hold.
But can she be saved?
Eli, Ollie, Josh and Henrik recently performed life changing surgery on young Sammy, which saw them remove his cancerous tumour – could a similar operation take place for Jac?
Or are we about to lose one of Holby’s most iconic characters before the show ends?
What’s next for Amelia and Eli?
Eli’s wife, Amelia (Lucy Briggs-Owen) is also living with a brain tumour, but recently made a decision to stay off the proton-beam therapy (PBT) trial in the hope of continuing her long-awaited pregnancy.
However, as we saw tonight, Amelia sadly had a miscarriage – does that mean she’ll return to the PBT?
Poor Eli has struggled to connect with Amelia emotionally, as he’s been far too focused on the science and facts when it comes to pregnancy and PBT.
Will this couple rebuild their marriage if Amelia decides to continue with the PBT after all?
Or will Eli face heartbreak?
Can Donna and Fletch mend their friendship?
Donna (Jaye Jacobs) and Fletch (Alex Walkinshaw) have such a strong friendship but since the ordeal with Jeni, Mia and Evie, things have become strained.
The partnership isn’t as tight as what it once was, but could Donna and Fletch mend their friendship before we leave them?
Or will it be a case of them moving forward, but never being the same again?
What’s next for Sacha?
After Dom became determined to destroy Sacha, viewers grew worried their friendship would never be the same again.
Fortunately, Sacha has forgiven Dom and is determined to be there for him as he grieves for Carole.
What will be next for Sacha as the new year begins?
Could he find love?
Or will he put all his time and effort into looking after Dom and his Holby family?
Will the hospital move out of special measures?
As well as Jac returning, Eli and Madge (Claire Burt) were brought in to try and help Holby City Hospital come out of special measures following a disaster of an inspection.
The state of the hospital is improving slowly…what’s that you say? How do we know? Well, there hasn’t been any bombs go off for a few months…
But will the hospital receive a positive response after their next inspection?
We hope so…
Will anyone else return?
With Nicky back and Zosia (Camilla Arfwedson) making very brief cameo tonight, that’s it for the 2021 shock returns…so who’s back in 2022?
Holby City are giving nothing away (believe us, we’ve certainly tried to get something out of them), so it leaves us just to merely speculate on who we’d like to see back.
Come on, Professor Elliot Hope (Paul Bradley) has got to return before the final episode, right?
Maybe Henrik’s grandson and total legend Oskar?
What about Jac’s daughter, Emma, we’ve got to see her again!
And Mo (Chizzy Akudolu)! Definitely Mo!
It will certainly be strange tuning into the first 2022 episode of Holby City, knowing we’re a tiny bit closer to tuning in for one final time.
Be sure to cherish every moment we have left with our favourite medical bunch, because we’ll certainly miss them when they’re gone.
