What The Weeknd wore at the Super Bowl halftime show
The Weeknd is no longer blinded by the lights.
The singer, 31, seems to be ready for the end of his “After Hours” era, hanging up the red-and-black suit he’s worn nearly exclusively for the past year.
The Toronto native, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, posted a photo on Instagram Thursday of his framed sunglasses, red blazer, black shirt, tie and gloves — which were a hallmark of “The Character’s” aesthetic — underneath his Songwriter of the Year plaque from the 2021 ACAP Pop Music Awards.
“This needs to be in a museum,” one fan wrote. “I’m so emotionally attached to that suit lmao omg,” another said.
If The Weeknd is indeed moving on from his “After Hours” persona, he’ll have gone out with a bang; Tesfaye’s last performance was at the 2021 Super Bowl halftime show in Tampa Bay, when he sported a sparkling version of the same suit by Givenchy.
Though the star showed his face unharmed on sports’ biggest stage, one major aspect of the era has been his ever-bloodied and bandaged visage. Occasionally altered with prosthetics and CGI plastic surgery, the look was meant as a meta commentary on Hollywood beauty expectations.
