Harry Styles was applauded for wearing a Gucci gown on the cover of Vogue — but designer Marc Jacobs told Town & Country he’s been wearing women’s fashion for years.

“I’ve worn women’s Prada for, I don’t know, 20 years now, and I’ve worn dresses from Comme des Garçons’ menswear collection” he told the magazine.

“And people say to me, ‘Oh, did Comme do that for men?’ And I’m like, ‘What’s the difference?’ Whether they did it for men or women, I’m wearing it. So I’ve always felt like clothing and jewelry have no gender. It’s been gendered over the years by people who thought differently, right?”

Jacobs is even donning pearls during quarantine.

“A twinset always belonged to a different gender, a strand of pearls belonged to a different gender, and you see with young kids today, it’s like, no, it doesn’t,” he said.

Styles was the first solo man featured on a Vogue cover.
