My partner's daughter doesn't want me to move in with them

DEAR DEIDRE: MY partner’s daughter is dead-set against me moving in with them – but we found lockdown apart so difficult.

We’ve been together for four years. Her daughters from her marriage are 12 and 15.

The older girl is OK with me moving in but the 12-year-old wants things to carry on as they are. I’m 40 and my partner is 42.

I’ve put my apartment up for rent and have some people coming to view it.

I don’t want to make home life difficult for my partner and I’m happy living alone. But I almost feel I’ve gone too far to change my mind.

DEIDRE SAYS: Forcing your way in will only lead to more upset. Slow things down until everybody is on board.

Potential tenants might be looking at your apartment but you are free to change your mind.

Now restrictions are lifted, overnight stays are allowed – so stay for a night at first, then two.

You might want to arrange a holiday with her daughters to see how well you get along when together 24/7.

Your partner’s daughter had her mum to herself for many years, so perhaps it’s a case of baby steps until you all feel comfortable.
