More than half a million customers in two Gulf Coast states were without power on Tuesday morning as Tropical Storm Nicholas threatened to bring dangerous flooding and whipping winds to the region.
According to outage tracker PowerOutage.US, there were 503,638 customers out of power in Texas and 93,583 in Louisiana.

The storm, downgraded from a Category 1 hurricane, made landfall early Tuesday along the Texas coastline and was moving slowly toward metropolitan Houston at 7 a.m. CT.
More than a foot of rain fell along the same area hit by Hurricane Harvey in 2017; Houston saw more than 6 inches of rain and Galveston reported almost 14 inches.
