TUI issues travel warning for vaccinated Brits using NHS Covid app

TUI has issued a travel warning for all Brits travelling abroad using the NHS Covid app.

Anyone travelling abroad using the NHS Covid vaccine passport will need to update it urgently, or reprint it, or risk being banned from flying.

TUI said in a statement on their website: "The FCDO have advised that customers travelling to a number of destinations will need to ensure that any printed proof of their vaccination status needs to be dated from 1 November.

"We would advise any customers who have printed PDF copies of their NHS Covid Pass before 1 November to print a new copy to ensure it is accepted.

"Please note that holiday destinations have their own entry requirements which may vary, and we recommend that customers check the FCDO advice for the country they are travelling to."

The government updated their travel advice for vaccinated travellers last week, following the EU decision to accept the NHS Covid pass.

The European Commission confirmed that the UK NHS COVID pass would finally be accepted as full proof of vaccination in all EU countries.

Not only would this speed up travel, but would also let travellers enter bars and restaurants without needing a negative Covid test.

However, this means that Brits must update their NHS Covid passes – with any that were printed out before November no longer valid.

The government website states: "Your NHS COVID Pass can now be scanned to check and validate your COVID-19 vaccination status in venues in over 40 countries, including those in the EU.

"If you downloaded your NHS COVID Pass as a PDF or added it to your Apple Wallet before 1 November 2021, you’ll need to download, reprint or add an updated version before you travel so that your NHS COVID Pass is valid.

"PDF copies downloaded before 1 November are not able to be scanned by your travel operator when travelling abroad."

Which? editor Rory Boland added on social media: "If you have printed off a PDF from the NHS to prove you are vaccinated it needs to be dated 1 November or after.

"Those printed earlier may be refused in a dozen or so EU countries, inc Belgium, Croatia and Czechia."

Brits faced problems with the NHS passes last month after the Covid app went down, forcing many to miss their flights.

Airlines advise travellers to print out their documents just in case the app fails to work, to prevent them from being banned from boarding.

Most countries have scrapped the requirement for Covid tests for vaccinated tourists, meaning UK travellers only need proof of both jabs.

And Brits have been given a holiday boost after all of the remaining countries on the UK's red list were removed.

This follows the scrapping of the green and amber lists last month – meaning a quarantine-free holiday is back on.
