Dermot O’Leary has helped to reassure Alison Hammond over her hesitancy on the Covid-19 vaccine during a discussion on This Morning.

On Friday’s edition of the ITV talk show, presenters Dermot and Alison were joined by Matthew Wright and Gyles Brandreth as they talked about the latest headlines.

At one point, the conversation turned to the coronavirus vaccine, with 46-year-old Alison joking that she’s not in the over 40s category that is now being offered the jab in England.

Gyles, 73, who was in the studio, turned to her and asked: ‘You’re going to do it?’

‘We’ll see,’ she responded, before adding: ‘I’m going to be honest with you, I’m hesitant.’

When Gyles urged her not to be hesitant, she replied: ‘I can be hesitant, that’s up to me to be hesitant.’

Gyles turned to her and said: ‘It’s up to you to be hesitant, but I’m just saying to you don’t be hesitant, honestly don’t.’

Matthew, 55, who spoke in January about suffering from Covid-19 symptoms, chimed in to explain how having the virus has continued to impact him up to this day.

‘Four months on, I’m still wheezy, I’m still coughing. It’s still within me, and I would say anything that avoids you having to go through the virus is worth considering,’ he said.

After Alison thanked everybody for their concern, Dermot, 47, said: ‘It’s only ‘cause we love you.’

‘I know you do, I know,’ Alison responded, before changing the subject of the conversation.

Last week, Alison Hammond revealed that she is ‘wary’ about giving her child the coronavirus vaccine, despite saying that she’d be willing to get it herself.

On the NHS website, it stresses that the vaccine is ‘safe and effective’ and that ‘it gives you the best protection against Covid-19’.

The jab is currently being offered to people who are most at risk, which at the moment includes people aged 40 and over, those deemed clinically extremely vulnerable, people who live or work in care homes and social care workers.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
