Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick)’s return to Emmerdale is set to cause all sorts of shockwaves around the village, and for one couple in particular, as Vanessa sends Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter) packing.
Michelle Hardwick reveals Vanessa’s role in splitting up her sister Tracy (Amy Walsh) and her partner, Nate. ‘It’s not Vanessa’s fault, but she is sort of involved in a way.’ she says mysteriously.
Michelle says she enjoys the interfering aspect of her character. ‘I love that side of Vanessa – the little meddling side to her where she thinks she’s doing the right thing.’
Vanessa thinks she’s protecting Tracy by getting rid of Nate. ‘She sends him packing on more than one occasion and she’s stopping him from not only seeing Tracy but also seeing Frankie. She thinks she’s protecting her sister, whereas we know that’s not going to turn out well, is it?’
Tracy doesn’t react well to Vanessa’s interfering. ‘She’s not a happy bunny at all,’ says Michelle, but she thinks Vanessa is reacting to the fact that she wasn’t there previously to protect Tracy. ‘Vanessa says, “I wasn’t there before but I am now. I was only trying to help.” And she was.’
As a knock-on effect from this, Vanessa decides to stay in Emmerdale for longer than she originally planned to support her. ‘Let’s be honest, Tracy’s been through all this with post natal depression and Vanessa was still at her mum’s,’ Michelle explains.
‘She still feels really guilty about that to be honest and wants to be there 100% for her and do everything she can. She’s going above and beyond to make up for the time she wasn’t here.’
