'Manifest': Will There Be a Season 4?

NBC‘s mysterious supernatural drama Manifest is just about to close out its third season on June 10, 2021, with a two-part finale. According to the finale’s synopsis, Michaela will attempt to keep the passengers of Flight 828 safe from a “deadly threat,” while Ben and Saanvi will head out to “save someone they love.” The Manifest Season 3 finale appears to have plenty of twists and action planned, but will it also mark the end of the series? Or will the Flight 828 passengers continue to see callings in another season?

What is ‘Manifest’ about?

Manifest follows Montego Air Flight 828 after the plane mysteriously disappears and then reappears five years later. The passengers had no idea they even went missing and did not age at all. However, the rest of the world moved on. As the passengers and their families try to cope with the experience and this strange new life, main characters Ben, Michaela, and Cal Stone realize that they now share a mysterious power that gives them visions of the future, or “callings.”

By Manifest Season 3, the Stone family figures out that the callings exist to guide them to someone who needs saving. All the passengers of Flight 828 have been given a second chance at life, and they must all continue to make the right choices in order to survive. If any one of them makes a mistake or “tips the lifeboat,” as Ben Stone puts it, all Flight 828 passengers could die.

The fate of ‘Manifest’ Season 4 has yet to be decided

Unfortunately, NBC has not yet officially renewed or canceled Manifest. According to Deadline, NBC has taken extra time to decide the show’s fate due to Manifest‘s late start on season 3. However, Channing Dungey, chairman of Warner Bros. Television Group, seems hopeful that the network will give season 4 the green light. Dungey stated that the showrunners are in talks with Susan Rovner, the head of TV content at NBCUniversal.

“We would love for the show to continue on NBC,” he told Deadline. “We are still in conversations with NBC and keeping our fingers crossed.”

The lack of a decision isn’t necessarily a bad sign, as NBC also has two other shows hanging in the balance: Good Girls and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. NBC has already canceled Debris, another supernatural show, after one season.

‘Manifest’ viewership may make or break the series

Manifest creator Jeff Rake launched the show with six seasons in mind. However, the show’s viewership numbers may be enough to affect the plan. As seen in the TV Series Finale ratings recap, Manifest’s numbers have varied throughout the season. The Season 3 premiere raked in nearly 4 million viewers but declined to the lower 3 millions after that.

As Distractify pointed out, Manifest has still done better in views this season than NBC’s other bubble shows, which could make for positive news. Plus, NBC’s The Blacklist has already been renewed for another season with a viewership of 3.3 million people. With a six-season plan in place, there must be plenty more action in store, so fans should remain hopeful for Manifest Season 4.
