Earlier this year Daniel Craig starred in his final James Bond film, No Time To Die. Going forward, a brand new actor will be claiming the role of the international superspy. While the person has not been officially announced just yet, a number of stars have started expressing their desires to don the tuxedo.

The latest person to announce his desire to join the series is Black Adam star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Johnson is best known for playing the on-screen goofball in films such as Jungle Cruise, Jumanji and Moana.

However, in a new interview, he revealed he has a legacy connection to the James Bond series.

He said: “Yes, my grandfather was a Bond villain in You Only Live Twice with Sean Connery. Very, very cool.” (Via Esquire)

Johnson’s grandfather was Peter Maivia, a professional wrestler from Samoa who was a villain in the aforementioned 1967 Bond film.

The Fast and Furious star went on: “I would like to follow in his footsteps and be the next Bond. I don’t wanna be a villain. You gotta be Bond.”

Following his comments, the star has been awarded 100/1 from Ladbrokes in the Bond odds.

Although these seem like slim odds for now, he is currently the most-likely pro-wrestler on the list.

Naomi Harris says Tom Hardy is too established for James Bond

Johnson’s new odds – and his impassioned comments – could mean his odds may be slashed drastically in the coming months.

At the moment, however, the top of the odds is still a three-way tie.

The people’s favourite, Tom Hardy, currently has 4/1 after releasing his new movie Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

He is joined at the top by Bridgerton hunk Regé-Jean Page, who also has 4/1.

Page and Hardy are in good company with Game of Thrones and Eternals actor Richard Madden.

Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati commented: “It’s 15 years to the day since Daniel Craig donned the famous Bond tux for the first time, and while we’ve seen plenty of names linked with the role in that time, it’s safe to say the betting is now closer than it’s ever been.”

The trio at the top of the Bond odds Christmas tree are not out of the woods just yet, however. Joining them on the list – other than Johnson – is a slew of Hollywood A-listers who are certainly in good standing with the Bond fandom.

Superman actor Henry Cavill is up there with a staggering 10/1 – although he may have already missed his chance.

Cavill is neck-and-neck with Idris Elba, who recently saw a bump in popularity after starring in The Suicide Squad.

Loki star Tom Hiddleston is about as well, with an impressive 16/1.

He is joined by fellow (former) Marvel actor Michael Fassbender, who has the same ranking of 16/1.

James Bond No Time To Die is in cinemas now.
