Ever since meeting sex worker Nicky Wheatley (Kimberly Hart-Simpson), Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) has been enamoured by her and using her company as an outlet for his ongoing grief over his lost wife Sinead in Coronation Street.
While Daniel has tried all he can to overcome the agony of losing Sinead, it’s clear that his road to recovery is a long one as he isolates himself while missing her terribly.
Viewers have ached for him after seeing him talk sadly and wistfully to her photograph – so a turning appoint seemed to be on the horizon when he met bubbly and fun loving Nicky at a drinks party and she paid an interest in him.
They enjoyed one another’s company but when it got to the stage of taking the night further, Nicky reeled off her charges and Daniel was mortified that he would be paying.
Daniel later re-established his contact with Nicky and opened up to her in her hotel room about his life with Sinead and Bertie and how much he misses his wife. He found the session therapeutic and paid for her company.
In upcoming scenes, he will visit her again, this time taking along a cardigan Sinead used to wear. After getting an advance on his wages he pays Nicky again and she reminds him that he can get so much more for his money as she makes amorous advances.
But Daniel reiterates that this has nothing to do with sex for him – he just finds her company helpful as he tries to keep Sinead alive in his memories.
But how long before Nicky becomes uncomfortable with this arrangement? And is this unhealthy means of working through his grief going to create more problems for Daniel long term?
