Unforgottens Nicola Walker on supportive husband and long-term friendship with Sue Perkins

Unforgotten star Nicola Walker has opened up about her "supportive" relationship with husband and fellow actor Barnaby Kay, 52. The talented actress also revealed her dreams of working with close friend, Sue Perkins.

Nicola – who we spoke to ahead of the third and final series of The Split – revealed that the pair often watch one another's work even if their teenage son, Harry, is less interested.

"I don’t think my son has ever seen anything I’ve done. He’s seen bits but he’s never watched a whole episode, because obviously that’s weird, as I’m his mum. My husband, Barney, watches it though. He’s very supportive," she tells us in her exclusive OK! interview.

She continued: "Loads of actors say they don’t watch themselves, but I do. These shows take up five or six months of my life and I care about them deeply.

"I want to see what we’ve made. Saying that, it’s not a joyful experience watching yourself on camera. It’s actually very odd."

When we sat down to chat with actress Nicola Walker about how she felt ahead of The Split finale, she was smiling from ear to ear and unable to contain her excitement.

"I’m still grinning all the time because anything to do with the Split family puts a massive smile on my face. I want everyone to really enjoy it. It’s such a good story and it has a fantastic ending."

Now that the show is done, and we know Nicola won't be reprising her role as Unforgotten's DCI Cassie Stuart, we had to find out what the 51 year old is planning to do next.

"I’m practical about acting. My dream role is always the job you get next. I’m available from June 11th!"

Nicola is also incredibly close to Sue Perkins – who she bet at Cambridge University as part of the Footlights Dramatic Club – and revealed she'd love to work with her again.

"I’ve been friends with Sue Perkins a long time and did a bit for a comedy she made a few years back. I’d love to work with her again. She doesn’t know that," she laughed.

Watch Nicola Walker in The Split. The third series starts Monday 4 April at 9pm on BBC One.
